The Agriterra – Farmers’ Organisations for Rural Transformation (FORT) Project, funded by the Netherlands, marks a significant milestone in strengthening cooperative financial institutions across Uganda. Through this initiative, UCCFS will receive direct support to enhance the institutional capacity of SACCOs, ensuring that they are better positioned to serve farmers, rural communities, and their wider membership base.

The project’s interventions will focus on three critical pillars. First is governance, where SACCO leaders and boards will be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to promote accountability, transparency, and effective decision-making. Second is savings mobilization, empowering SACCOs to design strategies that encourage members to save more consistently, thereby increasing the pool of resources available for lending and investment. Finally, the project emphasizes digital integration, enabling SACCOs to adopt modern financial technologies that streamline operations, improve efficiency, and expand access to financial services for members in even the most remote areas.

By addressing these core areas, the FORT Project aims to strengthen the role of SACCOs as engines of rural transformation, fostering sustainable growth, resilience, and greater financial inclusion for farming communities.
